TOMORROWLAND FOREVER BOOK FAIR

The &Now bookfair is hosted by local boutique The Rubber Rose.

The Rubber Rose is an adult boutique that sells, among many other delightful things, books. At the &Now Festival of New Writing 2011 bookfair, The Rubber Rose will sell books and other literary merchandise on commission directly from small presses who bring or send the books to the festival. The Rubber Rose will not order books from presses, individuals, or stores to sell at the festival. Presses must get their books to The Rubber Rose at the festival, and Presses must be represented at the festival by at least one person who is responsible for delivering books to the bookfair by hand and picking up the books that go unsold. Presses may mail books to UCSD, but must deliver them to the bookfair by hand and must collect them at the end of the bookfair. The Rubber Rose will not mail unsold books back to presses.

"If San Diego's queer arts scene is a beating heart, then The Rubber Rose is its pacemaker, keeping the community educated, inspired, and of course, titillated." —Abby Schwartz

The Rubber Rose is an adult boutique determined to radicalize the sex toy industry and people's vision of the fluidity of human sexuality.

Open since 2006, the Rubber Rose proudly boasts a selection of unique non-toxic toys and accessories. Our mission is to facilitate community growth in the worlds of art, education, activism, and adult sexuality.

Our books cover topics from queer rights to erotica. From showcasing voices of underrepresented peoples to sexy photo books. Our gadgets come in a dazzling range of varieties and prices. Quiet, efficient, aerodynamic and unbelievably adorable, all of these modern weapons of mass pleasure are skin safe and non-toxic, many constructed of silicone and all are phthalate-free—a must for the modern, eco-conscious woman and/or couple. Truly an extension of the statement, "make love not war", the Rubber Rose is inspired to help communities grow, heal, learn and celebrate together.

The ideals of social entrepreneurship show us that we often have to work within the current models to create change. The challenge, as business grows, is to stay true to activist ideals. The Rubber Rose is not just a store. It is revolutionary space that meshes retail with social causes, and functions as a bustling community hub. As we move forward, we stay true to our vision. All is possible. We exist for all humans, all places, to love….all ways.
